Where It All Began
Where It All Began
Love & Humor Care was inspired by a real person and a simple realization: sometimes what someone needs most isn't another television show or another day sitting at home. Sometimes they need someone to get them out into the world, have a conversation, laugh, explore, and feel connected again.
My time with Marilyn helped me see just how meaningful companionship can be. What started as spending time together became part of the inspiration behind Love & Humor Care.
That experience is at the heart of what I want to give to other seniors, veterans, and adults who may be experiencing loneliness or isolation.
“My sister and I have been caring for our Mom since she's been in a group home for the past two years due to some health complications and symptoms of dementia. At this particular group home, they don't have a lot of activities for the residents- which isn't the group homes fault- many of the residents are not able to do activities regularly due to mobility and cognitive limitations. Our Mom was and still is able to do activities and my sister and I found that when my Mom is able to get out of the house for short trips (such as Walgreens, going to Starbucks, and/or going to the park when it's nice outside) it cheers her up tremendously. Jan has been so helpful with our Mom- by coming over and playing board games with her and also, by taking her out for short trips in the morning. It is just so important that our family members don't feel forgotten about and feel included in our everyday lives through socialization. We are very grateful to Jan and her education, experience, compassion and natural ability as a helper and social worker; in addition, we are thrilled that she has created an opportunity to utilize her gifts to help individuals and families support their loved ones through one-on-one social visitation and care.
